Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather Equipment
First things first, I need to gather all my equipment. I grab my Essential Oil Distiller, Glass bottles, Droppers, Measuring cups, Scale, Kettle, Cheesecloth, Storage containers, pH test strips, Gloves, Safety goggles, Mortar and Pestle, Heat Source, Thermometer, and those Essential Oil Tester Strips. It's time to get excited!
Step 2: Choose Your Plant Material
Now I need to decide what plant I want to extract oils from. I love the smell of lavender, so I gather some fresh lavender flowers. Ooh, the scent already lifts my spirits!
Step 3: Prepare the Plant Material
With my Mortar and Pestle, I gently crush the lavender flowers to release their essential oils. This process is invigorating as I can almost feel the aroma filling the room!
Step 4: Set Up the Distillation
I place the crushed lavender in my Essential Oil Distiller and set everything up according to the instructions. I fill my kettle with water and set it on my Heat Source to get things boiling.
Step 5: Start Distilling
As the water heats up, steam rises through the plant material, and I watch as magic happens! The essential oils begin to evaporate and mix with the steam.
Step 6: Collecting the Oil
The steam will condense back into liquid form, which I collect in my glass bottles. I can hardly wait to see how much I get!
Step 7: Filter the Essential Oil
Once I have collected the liquid, it’s time to filter it. I pour it through my Cheesecloth or Muslin cloth into a fresh storage container. I want to remove any plant bits and get pure oil.
Step 8: Testing the pH
With my pH test strips, I test the acidity of the oil. This helps me ensure that I have a quality product. It’s a fun little science experiment!
Step 9: Store the Essential Oil
I carefully transfer the filtered essential oil into clean, labeled glass bottles. Each bottle will hold this delightful essence of lavender.
Step 10: Label and Enjoy!
Finally, I make sure to label each bottle. I can't wait to use my homemade lavender essential oil in diffusers or for aromatherapy. It feels great to have created something so beautiful and fragrant!
Step 11: Clean Up
Now comes the not-so-fun part - cleaning up! I wash all my tools and equipment, making sure everything is spotless for the next exciting essential oil adventure.
